LYF UPDATE

(for all youth in grades 9-12 of St. Andrew Lutheran Church)

SUNDAY/January 29/2011

From Director of Christian Education & Youth Ministry/Ken Koehler

(Updates & additional info also available at www.standrewlcms.org / Youth Ministries / Grades 9-12 LYF)

1)      DONUTS TODAY: Jessica Schatz. NEXT TIME: Janille Dillard. If you are interested in serving donuts to raise funds for up-coming youth activities let me know and I will add your name to the list.

2)         SATURDAY!   SKIING/SNOWBOARDING/TUBING TRIP / FEBRUARY 4TH: Your next opportunity to hit the slopes at our annual CONGREGATIONAL Skiing & Snowboarding Day for St. Andrew and the other congregations of our Eastern Zone LYF at Andes Tower Hills near Alexandria, MN. We will plan to leave from here by 7:30am on Saturday, February 4th, and return by around 8:30 or 9:00pm. We encourage entire families to come along and we actually depend of individual vans and cars for our transportation. We will plan to stop for pizza at Fergus Falls on the way back. This yearly event has proven to be a great day of fun, recreation and fellowship (as well as discounted group rates) for all who attend – so we hope you can join us. Registration forms are available from the youth bulletin board or DCE Ken’s office. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

3)         MEXICO MISSION TRIP (FEB 24- MARCH 4): This trip is during your spring break so you wouldn’t have to miss much school. We already have two LYF youth who have signed up to attend. There are also youth from several other congregations attending. The next Mission Society meeting is Sunday, February 12 at 2pm. Our St. Andrew Youth Budget will assist with your registration costs. Contact me (or Kirk Rosin) for more information. Also, the sooner you can decide and sign up the more it helps with the planning. Thanks. mission trip

4)         LIVING TOGETHER (before being married): Please check the back side of today’s UPDATE for an article written by Val Farmer, a clinical psychologist which recently appeared in one of “The Forum” newspapers:

T      ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE & GROWTH:

-have a question or a suggested study topic about faith, the Bible, or life itself? - put it in the youth room

“Questions Box” or just contact me at any time (someone else is probably wondering about the same thing)

-help with the monthly sponsorship of our LCMS Orphanage “Project 24" in Kenya, Africa

-start up a small group Bible study of your own - (I’ll help with topic ideas, resources, and however else I can)

-join me in peaceful prayer in front of the abortion facility in Fargo for 1 hour anytime we can arrange

-add your name to the list of Ushers, Greeters, or Child Care helpers for worship services
